The Hundred men’s squads 2022: Retained players list
On the eve of the deadline day, The Hundred franchises have announced the list of retained players for both men’s and women’s teams.
More than 150 players who had featured in 2021 have been retained for the 2022 tournament. Among this list, 28 England centrally contracted players and 19 international names have been retained so far. Some of the biggest names from England include England’s World Cup-winning captains Heather Knight, Eoin Morgan, England Men’s Test team captain Joe Root, all-rounder Moeen Ali, keeper Jos Buttler among others. Some of the biggest international names include Rashid Khan, Ellyse Perry, Smriti Mandhana among others.

The current men’s team champions have opted for eleven players including England pacer Jofra Archer. The pacer had signed up to play in the last edition but had to miss out due to injury. Apart from Archer, the team also has retained to-be-soon Australian contracted player Tim David. The current Singapore star has recently won big bucks in the IPL auction as well.

Birmingham Phoenix:

The Birmingham Phoenix squad have retained ten players including England all-rounders Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Liam Livingstone. New Zealand pacer Adam Milne is the only overseas player to be retained in that list. The team will have to pick seven players in the draft.

England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan will return to lead the London Spirit once again. The team also have opted for the veteran Ravi Bopara and middle-order batter Zak Crawly among others. Australian swashbuckling all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is the only overseas player to be retained.

Manchester Originals is one of the teams to let go of all their overseas players and have preferred to retain plenty of home-grown talents including England wicket-keeper Jos Buttler. The young spinner Matt Parkinson, Pacer Jamie Overton and attacking keeper-batter Phil Salt are some of the players retained by the team.

Northern Superchargers will welcome Faf du Plessis back. The South African star had to miss the last edition after failing to clear the fitness test due to the concussion he had during Pakistan Super League last year. Apart from du Plessis, England all-rounders Ben Stokes, David Willey will return to the franchise this year.

Oval Invincibles is yet another team that had preferred the home-grown talent. A big list of England representatives will return to the team, including, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, top-order batter Jason Roy, Wicket-keeper Sam Billings among others.

Trent Rockets have retained most of their stars who had featured last year. The England Test team captain Joe Root returns to lead the side. Among the overseas stars- Rashid Khan and Marchant de Lange will be back for the team. The team also has retained England attacking batter Alex Hales and veteran all-rounder Samit Patel.

Welsh Fire, who didn’t really enjoy success in the inaugural edition, has decided to revamp their squad and has retained only nine players where all of them are home-grown talents. England keeper Jonny Bairstow returns to the side along with his England teammate Ollie Pope and Jake Ball among others.
