Ashish Nehra points out big concern in India star’s batting approach
Suryakumar Yadav is currently in the form of his life. He is playing some best knocks in recent times and thanks to his consistency, he is currently in the 2nd spot of the T20I rankings.
Even in the last game, he smashed an unbeaten 50 from 33 deliveries. What made the knock even more special was the fact that every single player struggled at the venue. In fact, South Africa were reduced to 9/5 at one point.
At this venue, Suryakumar Yadav was able to produce shots, unlike others.
However, former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra has said that Suryakumar Yadav’s approach is a double-edged sword and it might backfire too.
“Suryakumar’s batting approach is a double-edged sword. Irrespective of the scoreboard, he has set a pattern for himself. Such an approach works when the wicket is flat,” said Nehra.
Nehra added that when everyone failed at this pitch, Suryakumar Yadav could’ve got out early too but he stood until the end.
“But today, on a testing surface, with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli dismissed early, Suryakumar could have also departed early with the approach,” he added.
The 1st T20I between South Africa and India witnessed a low-scoring contest. The Indian opening bowlers reduced South Africa to 9/5 at one point but the team pushed as much as they could and ended up with 106/8 in their 20 overs.
India, in return, had a poor start with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli departing early. However, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav made sure to take the team home safe and they took 1-0 lead here.
