We need to look into our bowling: Rohit Sharma

Indian captain Rohit Sharma said that the team needs to work on their bowling as they failed to defend 209 in their 20 overs. Australia’s Cameron Green took on the Indian bowlers and ended with a half-century and helped the team to cross over the line.

“I don’t think we bowled well”

Talking about the Indian bowling attack after the match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma said that the team didn’t bowl well but it was a great effort from the batters.

“I don’t think we bowled well. 200 is a good score to defend, and we didn’t take our chances in the field. It was a great effort from our batters, but bowlers were quite not there,” Rohit said at the presentation ceremony.

He also appreciated Hardik Pandya’s batting and said that he spearheaded the Indian batting attack.

“You can’t score 200 every day, you need to bat well. Hardik (Pandya) batted really well to get us there. We need to look at our bowling before the next game,” he added.

The Indian captain also mentioned that this game was a good lesson before the T20 World Cup to analyze what went wrong.

“There are things we need to look at, but it was a great game for us to understand what went wrong.”

We know this is a high-scoring ground. You can’t relax even if you get 200. We took wickets to an extent, but they played really well. They played some extraordinary shots”.

“We were not able to take their wicket”

He added that India would’ve chased the total as well since the pitch was good to bat on.

“If I was in that changing room, I would expect to chase that total. You can back yourself to get 60 runs in the final 4 overs.

“We were not able to take their wicket. That was the turning point, if we would have taken wickets, things would have been different,” Rohit said.

The Indian team made 208/6 while batting first. KL Rahul, who opened the innings alongside Rohit Sharma, batted freely to score 55 from 35 deliveries. After his dismissal, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav joined hands to dominate the Australian bowlers.

Pandya returned with an unbeaten 71 whereas Yadav made 46.

In return, Cameron Green was sent up the order to open the innings alongside the skipper Aaron Finch. Green smashed 61 from 30 whereas, Matthew Wade took the team home with an unbeaten 45.

Talking about his knock, Green said that he was nervous initially as it was his first match as an opener but the experience of Finch at the other end helped him out.

“I was thrown into the deep end (opening for the first time) but having someone like Finchy as an experienced campaigner, kept me calm.

“We had the luxury of seeing the Indians bat and Hardik must be one of the best in what he does.

“It was kind of good to watch them bat, and that gave us an idea about how to go about while chasing,” Green said.
