Rajat Patidar joins list of batsmen with highest induvial score in IPL playoffs
Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Lucknow Super Giants in the eliminator of IPL 2022 played at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 25th May 2022.
After being invited into bat by KL Rahul, RCB lost all three big wickets of Faf, Kohli and Maxwell without much contribution. Rajat Patidar came early after the fall of Faf du Plessis in the first over itself. He looked in great touch putting enough pressure on LSG bowlers especially against Krunal Pandya.
Patidar showed his completing fifty off just 28 balls and did not allow pressure to gather. Soon after the timeout, Lomror fell. Patidar made use of missed chances by LSG fielders. He blasted away Ravi Bishnoi after the drop chance by Hooda hitting him for big shots keeping the momentum going for RCB. Patidar completed his century off 49 balls with a six. It was a breath-taking knock by the uncapped Indian player remaining not out on 112 including 12 fours and 7 sixes with a staggering strike rate of 207.41. Thanks to his brilliance and cameo by Dinesh Karthik, RCB posted 207 for 4 in 20 overs.
Despite KL Rahul’s and Deepak Hooda efforts, LSG fell short of the target by 14 runs thanks to brilliant bowling by Harshal Patel and Hazlewood. For his brilliance, Rajat Patidar was named the man of the match award.
Patidar was unsold during the 2022 IPL auction. He came as a replacement for Luvnith Sisodia and turned out to be an explosive number 3 batsmen for RCB.
He became the first uncapped player to smash a century in IPL playoffs. Patidar joins other top-quality batsmen like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, and Mandeep Singh to smash 50 or more runs for RCB in IPL.
Patidar has been sensational for RCB during this season so far. Before playing against LSG in the eliminator, he featured for RCB in 4 matches so far with scores 52 off 32 balls, 48 off 38 balls, 26 off 21 balls and then 16 off 16 balls.
His stroke making against spinners and pacers makes him a dangerous batsman. During yesterday’s match against LSG, Patidar put enough pressure on Krunal Pandya and played some pull shots against the pacers. After settling in, he just smashed LSG bowlers all over the park entertaining the full capacity crowd of Kolkata.
There have been some other top-quality knocks in the IPL playoffs including Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and Finals.
