Watch: Tim David smokes 114m six at Wankhede
Tim David smashed 114m six at Wankhede stadium on Tuesday as Mumbai Indians took on Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Although Mumbai Indians had lost the match by three runs, Tim David turned heads with his power-hitting ability. The MI all-rounder even went on to smash three consecutive sixes off T Natarajan, one of which travelled 114m.
This is the second-longest six of this edition of the Indian Premier League. The longest was Liam Livingstone’s 117m.
Tim David went berserk in the 18th over of the match where the team needed more than 15 runs per over.
While Natarajan kept missing his length, David made full use of the low full tosses and took them over the boundary lane. He smashed four sixes overall and ended with 46 runs from just 18 deliveries. Tim David did give Mumbai Indians a glimpse of hope in that contest but unfortunately, he got run-out in the final delivery of that over.
It wasn’t a good call from the batters in the middle. The ball was near Natarajan as the batters tried to sneak a run. Natarajan was quick enough to gather the ball and dismiss Tim David.
After David’s dismissal, MI looked down and out as Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s brilliance with the ball stunned everyone. The Hyderabad bowler ended with a maiden while picking up a wicket in that over. With 19 needed off the final over, Ramandeep Singh began well but he couldn’t finish it off as Hyderabad won by three runs.
Chasing 194 to win, Mumbai Indians began well with both Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan getting some runs on the board. The duo added 95 runs for the first wicket and the skipper was the first to fall. He went for 48 and minutes later, Ishan Kishan followed him after making 43.
With two new batters at the crease, Umran Malik unleashed. His quicker deliveries troubled both Daniel Sams and Tilak Varma. After their dismissal, Tristan Stubbs fell for a run-out as well.
In the end, the match seemed out of reach for the 5-time champions but Tim David brought them back with 18-ball 46.
Umran Malik was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets to his name while Bhuvneshwar Kumar ended as the economical with 1/26 from his four overs.
Earlier, Priyam Garg was promoted to open the innings and the youngster made use of the opportunity as he made a 26-ball 42. Right after the fall of Abhishek Sharma inside the powerplay, Garg and Tripathi and then Pooran took Hyderabad to 193.
At one point, the team was closer to reaching 200-plus but Ramandeep Singh’s spell turned things around. The all-rounder ended with three wickets and helped MI to restrict them to a par score at this venue.
With this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad is still in the hunt for the playoffs. Though practically impossible because of their net run rate, the team will be hoping for some kind of miracle.
On the other hand, IPL 2022 will be the first time Mumbai Indians will be finishing at the bottom of the table. With this, only Chennai Super Kings have always finished higher, and they have never finished at the bottom of the table.
